Petkit Purobot Ultra Review: Auto-Bagging Litter Box With an AI Camera

At $799.99 the Purobot Ultra seals waste into bags and watches your cat through a rotating camera. We checked whether that earns a Litter-Robot sized price, and where owners say it breaks.

6.4 /10

Our verdict

The Purobot Ultra is the most ambitious litter box we looked at: it heat-seals waste into a bag, recognizes up to 15 cats and films each visit. It is also expensive, its video history sits behind the Care+ subscription, and owner reports of failing bag cutters and thin support are too common to ignore. Buy it only if auto-bagging is the feature you cannot live without.

Best for
Multi-cat homes that want hands-off waste bagging

Every self-cleaning litter box solves the scooping. The Purobot Ultra goes after the next chore: carrying the waste to the bin. It seals each load into a bag, fits a fresh one, and films your cat on the way in and out. That is a lot to ask of one machine, and it is priced accordingly.

We read the maker's spec sheet, the retailer listings and the owner reports to see which of those promises survive contact with a real household.

The bagging system is the reason to buy it

Most robot boxes drop clumps into a drawer lined with a bag. You still pull the bag, tie it and replace it. Petkit's pitch is that the Ultra heat-seals each bag and loads a fresh one on its own, using refill rings. The box ships with three rings, and the maker says one ring packs about ten times.

The Petkit product page: the bagging system is the headline feature, along with the AI camera.

Do the arithmetic before you fall for it. If a ring covers around ten bags, a one-cat home that packs every few days burns through a ring every month or two, and rings are a consumable you keep buying. The drum is 70 liters and the bin 10 liters, and the maker's claim is up to 20 days between scooping for one cat. Independent reviewers note that packing still needs you nearby, so this is not a fire-and-forget system.

The camera and the health data

The Ultra carries a 1080p camera with a 210 degree view, rated IPX5, and it recognizes up to 15 cats by face. It logs weight per cat, watches stool color and consistency, notes yowling during a visit, and reads urine pH if you buy Petkit's own monitoring litter.

Take those health features as prompts to look closer, not as diagnosis. A weight trend that drifts, or a cat that suddenly visits three times as often, is worth a call to your vet; the box itself is not a vet. We would also be careful about reading a pass or fail into stool analysis from a camera in a drum.

Where the subscription bites

Live video is free. The history is not. Petkit's Care+ plan stores 30 days of clips, with a one month free trial, and third-party listings put the plans at roughly $4 to $12 a month. An owner quoted on the product page put it bluntly: great tech, just be ready for the subscription.

Against a Litter-Robot

The Litter-Robot 4 page, the box most buyers compare the Purobot Ultra against.

In our capture of the Litter-Robot 4 page, the box was listed at $699, below the Purobot Ultra's $899.99 list price and $799.99 sale price. Litter-Robot gives you a mature app, a long track record and no bagging. Petkit gives you bagging, a camera and multi-cat recognition. If you have three cats and hate the trash step, the Petkit argument holds. If you have one cat and want something that works every day for years, the Litter-Robot is the safer purchase.

What owners say goes wrong

The positive reports are real: no smell, no handling bags, useful weight tracking. The negative ones are worrying in a specific way. Owners describe bagging that stopped after a few months, a cutter that stopped cutting just after the 90 day return window, and support that suggested pushing the waste down by hand. A few owners say the cat refused to enter at all, which can happen with any robot box.

Best Buy customer ratings page for the Petkit Purobot Ultra, 3.7 out of 5 from 3 reviews
Best Buy's rating at the time of our capture: 3.7 out of 5 stars from 3 reviews, a small sample.

Three reviews is not evidence of anything; the repeated pattern in other places is. Keep your receipt and use the box hard in the first weeks, because the two year warranty only helps if you can prove the fault.

The verdict

The Purobot Ultra is for people who value the bagging system enough to accept its risk: big households, people with bad backs, or anyone who dreads the drawer. For those buyers it is a real feature that nothing else offers at this level.

For everyone else, a simpler self-cleaning box costs less, fails less in the reports we read, and avoids a second subscription. Introduce it with the old box beside it, and if a new cat hesitates at the drum, be patient before you buy a replacement. We rate it a middling 6.4: clever and costly, with reliability still unproven.

What we liked, and what we did not

Pros

  • Heat-seals and re-bags waste automatically, so the owner never touches the drawer
  • Recognizes up to 15 cats and logs weight and visit data per cat
  • 1080p camera with a 210 degree view and 36 dB quiet cleaning cycle
  • Two-year warranty and 20 safety sensors stop the drum when a cat steps in

Cons

  • Costs $799.99 on sale and $899.99 list, above a Litter-Robot 4
  • Video playback needs the Care+ subscription after a 30 day free trial
  • Owners report bagging and cutting failures within months, some after returns closed
  • Refill rings are a recurring cost and bagging needs a person within reach
